Background Checks
Background checks are required for all gun purchases through licensed dealers. They are usually completed in a matter of minutes, but could be delayed.
Waiting Periods
If you wish to buy a handgun expect to wait a while to take it home. Unless you have a concealed pistol license or a FFL you will have to wait a few days to pick up your gun.
Gun Bans
Washington State Law
In Washington you must be 18 years old to buy a rifle or shotgun. If you want to buy a pistol or revolver you must be 21.
In order to carry a gun concealed in Washington State you need to have Concealed pistol license.
Concealed Pistol License
Concealed pistol licenses are governed at the state level. They are, however, issued by your local law enforcement agency. If you live within city limits you can apply for your cpl at your city police department. If you live in unincorporated county you would go to your county Sheriff's office.
A Washington CPL does not automatically allow you to carry a concealed weapon in every other state. If you wish to travel with your concealed pistol, check with the other states you plan to visit for information on reciprocity and non-resident CPLs. Check this list to get started.
